Echinodorus horizontalis is one of the only sword plants whose stalks grow vertically and leaves grow horizontally. Because of this unusual growing pattern, it can take up more space than other swords of the same height.
While this species does not grow large underwater, if grown emersed, it may reach up to a metre tall.
